2nd Corinthians 4:(17) For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,(18) as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

God does exactly what He wants to do.  Most would agree this is true but what does it mean?  In simple terms it says he only does those things that He wants to do and He never does those things which He doesn't want to do.  He is never compelled to do anything by any of the compelling forces that we are subject to.  He doesn't do anything because He thinks He must and He never does anything because He feels like He ought to.  God has no sense of ought like we do.  He is also never prevented from doing something He wishes to do.  He doesn't ring His hands wishing He could do something but is prevented from it.  There are certainly things He plans to do when the conditions are as He wishes them.  There are many things He is willing and even in a sense desirous to do when they come in line with His will or intention.  God wills to do certain things but will only do them when they are in accord with what He wants.

Another way to look at this is that God is one hundred percent choice.  We sometimes imagine a world where we could simply do whatever we want.  But that is the best description of Gods world.  He is externally inhibited or prevented by absolutely no power or authority.  This is why the Bible describes the creation in the way it does.  God simply spoke or expressed His desire that something be true then it became true.  He expressed His desire that the earth exist and then it did.  The best way to look at this might be in the sense that God has no decisions to make only choices.  He doesn't have to decide how He feels about mankind in general or even a single person.  He doesn't love individuals because He has to or because He ought to.  He simply chose to love his created being.  That choice has long sense been made.  He never has to reevaluate or decide its correctness, He simply does what He plans.

So what thoughts might we draw from this truth regarding our own lives?   There is no question from Gods standpoint how He wants to be in relationship with His creation.  He does not wonder when to respond to our inquiries.  He doesn't long to change His plan so He could embrace His struggling children.  He loves each one and responds exactly when His chosen intention for our hearts is met.  He doesn't in any way wish He could behave differently.   He loves us, He wants us, He has great plans forus, but His plans and choices are well made with the ultimate degree of love and wisdom.  He doesn't need to feel guilty for not conforming to our foolishness.  He doesn't experience guilt and regret.  He chooses with full freedom and endless kindness to bless and embrace those who reach out to him according to His purpose.

It really doesn't do us any good to bath in our self righteousness waiting for God to adjust to our thinking.  It doesn't do us any good to exchange the true God for our rationalized suitable replacements.  Our lives are inseparably tied to what God has chosen to do.  We are unimaginably and graciously blessed to be invited to participate in His great work of drawing His people from the world.

Rom 8:28 ESV(28)  And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
